Better Future Generation (BFG) is a non-government registered organization with a mission to promote inclusion of Persons with disabilities (PWDs) & Women empowerment and vulnerable people in socio-economic activities by enabling them to be self-employed and protection of their interests.
Better Future for Generation (BFG) in partnership with Kicukiro District and Nyarugunga Sector have built BDC Nyarugunga accessibility facilities for the persons with disabilities to enable the PWDs access to the office and other facilities included computer laboratory and bathrooms facility.
Based on inspection done, we observed that there is still gape in compliance with accessibility right for people with disability in different areas.
Mr. NKUSI Deo BFG member and having disability, appreciated the work done and enjoyed this advocacy.
Article 9, UN CRPD – Accessibility: To enable persons with disabilities to live independently and participate fully in all aspects of life, States Parties shall take appropriate measures to ensure to persons with disabilities access, on an equal
basis with others, to the physical environment, to transportation, to information and communication.
The Law Nº 01/2007 of 20/01/2007 relating to protection of Persons with Disabilities in general in its article 25 provides that “Buildings in which various services meant for residents are conducted, are required to be built in way such that they facilitate Persons with Disabilities to acquire access to such services.
Article 3 of the Rwanda Ministerial order n° 01/CAB.M/09 of 27/07/2009 – All buildings shall be equipped with the necessary facilities to enable persons with disabilities have access to services therein, therefore Rwanda Building Code.
No one should be left behind.
